Cubs embarrass Marlins at Landshark Stadium

The Chicago Cubs blew-out the Florida Marlins yesterday at Landshark Stadium with the Cubs winning 13 to 3. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Marlins tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 16 runs! Talk about excitement!

Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija (6.00 ERA) got the win, while Andrew Miller (8.17 ERA) took the loss for the Marlins. Jeff Samardzija went 6 innings for the Cubs, allowed 3 hits, 2 home runs and 3 earned runs with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cubs was Marcos Mateo (7.16), Thomas Diamond (7.20), and Scott Maine (3.38). The Marlins’s starter Andrew Miller went 1.1 innings, allowed 3 hits, no home runs and 5 earned runs with 4 walks and one strikeout. Brett Sinkbeil (27.00), Jose Ceda (7.94), Jorge Sosa (6.00), Brian Sanches (2.35), Leo Nunez (3.77), and Burke Badenhop (4.18) also pitched for the Marlins. With the win, Samardzija’s record goes to 2-1, while Miller falls to 1-3.

In addition to the 13 runs, the Cubs managed 10 hits and committed no errors. Jeff Baker led the Cubs in hitting with 4 hits, followed by Welington Castillo’s 2 hits, and Sam Fuld with 2. Bobby Scales had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Marlins didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Marlins managed 3 runs, 3 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Andy Fletcher, Tim McClelland, Mike Everitt and Adrian Johnson. There were 20,203 Marlins ticket holders in attendance at Landshark Stadium.
