Rockies edge Cubs by 1

The Colorado Rockies narrowly defeated the Chicago Cubs yesterday at Coors Field with the Rockies coming out on top 8 to 7. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Rockies tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 15 runs! Talk about excitement!

Rockies pitcher Jorge De La Rosa (5.01 ERA) got the win, while Carlos Silva (3.92 ERA) took the loss for the Cubs. Jorge De La Rosa went 6.2 solid innings for the Rockies, allowed 8 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rockies was Manny Corpas (4.23), Joe Beimel (2.81), and Huston Street (4.00). The Cubs’s starter Carlos Silva went 0.1 innings, allowed 2 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with one walk and no strikeouts. James Russell (4.28), Carlos Zambrano (5.71), Justin Berg (4.81), Andrew Cashner (6.04), and Carlos Marmol (2.55) also pitched for the Cubs. With the win, De La Rosa’s record goes to 4-3, while Silva is at 10-5.

In addition to the 8 runs, the Rockies scored 8 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Rockies, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Jonathan Herrera had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. Blake DeWitt and Marlon Byrd tied for most hits for the Cubs with 3, followed by Derrek Lee with 2 hits. Alfonso Soriano could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Cubs scored 7 runs, 12 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Mike Estabrook, Jerry Layne, Mike Winters and Hunter Wendelstedt. There were 38,256 Rockies ticket holders in attendance at Coors Field.
