Giants take close one from Cubs

The San Francisco Giants beat the Chicago Cubs in 11 innings yesterday in a hard-fought game of baseball. At a baseball game anything could happen, and an MLB extra-innings game is always a possibility. It was a thrilling night of baseball that anyone with Giants tickets will definitely cherish.

Giants pitcher Chris Ray (3.22 ERA) got the win, while Marcos Mateo (6.75 ERA) took the loss for the Cubs. Madison Bumgarner went 5.2 innings for the Giants, allowed 9 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Giants was Guillermo Mota (3.16), Sergio Romo (2.18), Brian Wilson (2.19), Ramon Ramirez (4.14), and Javier Lopez (2.51). The Cubs’s starter Carlos Zambrano went 5 innings, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 7 walks and 3 strikeouts. Justin Berg (4.82), James Russell (4.25), Andrew Cashner (5.52), and Sean Marshall (2.50) also pitched for the Cubs. With the win, Ray’s record goes to 5-0, while Mateo falls to 0-1.

In addition to the 4 runs, the Giants managed 11 hits and committed 2 errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Giants, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Andres Torres had a tough day at the plate, leaving 6 runners on base. The Cubs didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Blake DeWitt could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Cubs mustered 3 runs, 11 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Brian Gorman, Paul Nauert, Ted Barrett and Tony Randazzo. There were 41,943 Giants ticket holders in attendance at AT&T Park.
