The Atlanta Braves destroyed the Chicago Cubs yesterday at Wrigley Field with the Braves securing the victory 16 to 5. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Cubs game tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 21 runs! Talk about excitement!
Braves pitcher Mike Minor (4.00 ERA) got the win, while Randy Wells (4.56 ERA) took the loss for the Cubs. Mike Minor went 6 innings for the Braves, allowed 7 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with one walk and 12 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Braves was Jonny Venters (1.13), Peter Moylan (3.22), and Cristhian Martinez (3.68). The Cubs’s starter Randy Wells went 6 innings, allowed 7 hits, 3 home runs and 5 earned runs with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Thomas Diamond (7.04), James Russell (4.89), Justin Berg (5.77), and Marcos Mateo (11.37) also pitched for the Cubs. With the win, Minor’s record goes to 2-0, while Wells drops to 5-12.
Omar Infante provided much of the offense for the Braves with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 16 runs, the Braves put up 13 hits and committed no errors. Jason Heyward and Omar Infante tied for most hits for the Braves with 4 hits, followed by Martin Prado with 2 hits. Derrek Lee had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. Starlin Castro had the most hits for the Cubs (4), followed by Aramis Ramirez (3), and Marlon Byrd (3). The Cubs got 5 runs, 13 hits and 3 errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Dale Scott, Jerry Meals, Mark Wegner and Dan Iassogna. There were 37,518 Cubs ticket holders in attendance at Wrigley Field.
