The Chicago Cubs got a tough win over the Washington Nationals yesterday at Nationals Park with the Cubs picking up the W 5 to 4. It was one heck of a game that folks with Cubs game tickets aren’t likely to forget.
Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano (4.64 ERA) got the win, while John Lannan (5.23 ERA) took the loss for the Nationals. Carlos Zambrano went 7.1 solid innings for the Cubs, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and one earned run with one walk and 8 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cubs was Sean Marshall (2.81). The Nationals’s starter John Lannan went 5 innings, allowed 7 hits, 2 home runs and 4 earned runs with no walks and 3 strikeouts. Miguel Batista (4.21), Collin Balester (4.70), and Craig Stammen (5.18) also pitched for the Nationals. With the win, Zambrano’s record goes to 5-6, while Lannan is at 5-6. Carlos Marmol earned the save for the Cubs, bringing his saves up to 23.
In addition to the 5 runs, the Cubs scored 8 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Cubs, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Nationals didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Nyjer Morgan could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Nationals managed 4 runs, 7 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Tim Tschida, Bob Davidson, Alfonso Marquez and Tim Timmons. There were 18,250 Nationals ticket holders in attendance at Nationals Park.
