The Chicago Cubs narrowly defeated the San Francisco Giants yesterday at AT&T Park with the Cubs coming out on top 8 to 6. Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster (3.78 ERA) got the win, while Tim Lincecum (3.41 ERA) took the loss for the Giants. Ryan Dempster went 6.2 solid innings for the Cubs, allowed 8 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cubs was Andrew Cashner (5.46), Sean Marshall (2.45), and Carlos Marmol (2.75). The Giants’s starter Tim Lincecum went 4 innings, allowed 8 hits, one home run and 6 earned runs with one walk and 4 strikeouts. Santiago Casilla (2.32), Guillermo Mota (3.50), and Ramon Ramirez (4.05) also pitched for the Giants. With the win, Dempster’s record goes to 10-8, while Lincecum is at 11-6.
In addition to the 8 runs, the Cubs scored 14 hits and committed 3 errors. Aramis Ramirez led the Cubs in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Koyie Hill’s 2 hits, and Kosuke Fukudome with 2. The Giants’s Buster Posey had quite a day at the plate, batting in a stunning 4 runs! Pablo Sandoval and Buster Posey tied for most hits for the Giants with 3, followed by Juan Uribe with 2 hits. Andres Torres could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Giants scored 6 runs, 14 hits and no errors.
