The Chicago Cubs blasted the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday at Wrigley Field with the Cubs triumphant 15 to 3. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Cubs game tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 18 runs! Talk about excitement!
Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster (3.76 ERA) got the win, while Manny Parra (5.67 ERA) took the loss for the Brewers. Ryan Dempster went 6 innings for the Cubs, allowed 3 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cubs was Carlos Zambrano (5.61), Sean Marshall (2.60), and Mitch Atkins (5.63). The Brewers’s starter Manny Parra went 5.2 innings, allowed 6 hits, one home run and 6 earned runs with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. Todd Coffey (4.60), LaTroy Hawkins (9.64), David Riske (5.31), and Chris Capuano (4.64) also pitched for the Brewers. With the win, Dempster’s record goes to 9-8, while Parra falls to 3-9.
Geovany Soto provided much of the offense for the Cubs with an incredible 5 runs batted in. In addition to the 15 runs, the Cubs managed 16 hits and committed 3 errors. Starlin Castro led the Cubs in hitting with 4 hits, followed by Geovany Soto’s 3 hits, and Blake DeWitt with 2. Marlon Byrd had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Brewers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Jonathan Lucroy could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Brewers mustered 3 runs, 6 hits and no errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Tom Hallion, Ron Kulpa, Lance Barksdale and Ed Rapuano. There were 38,425 Cubs ticket holders in attendance at Wrigley Field.
