Cubs Lose Close One To Reds

The Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Cubs in 10 innings yesterday in a hard-fought game of baseball. You never know what you’re going to see at a baseball game, and an MLB extra-innings game is always a possibility. It was a solid match that aficionados with Reds tickets won’t soon forget.

Reds pitcher Jordan Smith (1.04 ERA) got the win, while Bob Howry (6.41 ERA) took the loss for the Cubs. Travis Wood went 7 solid innings for the Reds, allowed 2 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Reds was Nick Masset (5.71). The Cubs’s starter Carlos Silva went 7.2 innings, allowed 11 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with no walks and 6 strikeouts. James Russell (4.64), Carlos Marmol (2.21), Sean Marshall (2.11), and Jeff Stevens (2.76) also pitched for the Cubs. With the win, Smith’s record goes to 1-0, while Howry is at 1-2. Francisco Cordero earned the save for the Reds, bringing his saves up to 22.

In addition to the 3 runs, the Reds scored 16 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Reds, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Brandon Phillips had a tough day at the plate, leaving 6 runners on base. The Cubs didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Cubs scored 2 runs, 5 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Jeff Kellogg, Mark Carlson, Larry Vanover and Angel Campos. There were 36,880 Cubs ticket holders in attendance at Wrigley Field.
