Cubs pitcher Tom Gorzelanny (3.31 ERA) got the win, while Ian Kennedy (4.16 ERA) took the loss for the Diamondbacks. Tom Gorzelanny went 5 innings for the Cubs, allowed 5 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with 6 walks and 4 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cubs was Andrew Cashner (2.93), James Russell (4.18), Justin Berg (6.14), Sean Marshall (2.03), and Carlos Marmol (2.08). The Diamondbacks’s starter Ian Kennedy went 5.2 innings, allowed 9 hits, one home run and 7 earned runs with no walks and 6 strikeouts. Esmerling Vasquez (5.08), Jordan Norberto (5.40), Chad Qualls (7.67), and Juan Gutierrez (8.04) also pitched for the Diamondbacks. With the win, Gorzelanny’s record goes to 3-5, while Kennedy is at 3-7.
In addition to the 9 runs, the Cubs scored 11 hits and committed no errors. Geovany Soto led the Cubs in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Kosuke Fukudome’s 2 hits. The Diamondbacks didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Adam LaRoche could not get much going at the plate as he left 6 runners on base. The Diamondbacks got 4 runs, 6 hits and no errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Ron Kulpa, Lance Barksdale, Ed Rapuano and Tom Hallion. There were 26,250 Diamondbacks ticket holders in attendance at Chase Field.
