The Chicago Cubs faced off against the Arizona Diamondbacks yesterday at Chase Field with the Cubs securing the victory 8 to 3. It was a great baseball game that fans with Cubs game tickets will remember for quite some time.
Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster (3.61 ERA) got the win, while Edwin Jackson (4.92 ERA) took the loss for the Diamondbacks. Ryan Dempster went 5 innings for the Cubs, allowed 8 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with one walk and 6 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cubs was James Russell (4.13), Andrew Cashner (2.65), Sean Marshall (2.13), and Justin Berg (5.74). The Diamondbacks’s starter Edwin Jackson went 5 innings, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and 5 earned runs with 4 walks and one strikeout. Blaine Boyer (5.00), Juan Gutierrez (7.50), and Chad Qualls (8.31) also pitched for the Diamondbacks. With the win, Dempster’s record goes to 7-7, while Jackson drops to 6-7.
In addition to the 8 runs, the Cubs put up 10 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Cubs, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Diamondbacks didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Gerardo Parra could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Diamondbacks got 3 runs, 10 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Ed Rapuano, Tom Hallion, Ron Kulpa and Lance Barksdale. There were 20,914 Diamondbacks ticket holders in attendance at Chase Field.
