The Houston Astros beat the Chicago Cubs in 12 innings yesterday in a hard-fought game of baseball. At a baseball game anything could happen, and an MLB extra-innings game is always a possibility. It was quite a game that followers with Astros tickets will be talking about for days.
Astros pitcher Brandon Lyon (3.80 ERA) got the win, while Bob Howry (7.29 ERA) took the loss for the Cubs. Brett Myers went 7 solid innings for the Astros, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Astros was Matt Lindstrom (2.61), and Tim Byrdak (4.01). The Cubs’s starter Ted Lilly went 7.1 innings, allowed 7 hits, one home run and one earned run with one walk and 6 strikeouts. Sean Marshall (1.85), Carlos Marmol (2.78), Andrew Cashner (2.28), Justin Berg (5.31), James Russell (4.08), and Jeff Stevens (6.11) also pitched for the Cubs. With the win, Lyon’s record goes to 6-4, while Howry falls to 1-3. Gustavo Chacin earned the save for the Astros, bringing his saves up to 1.
In addition to the 4 runs, the Astros managed 11 hits and committed one error. Angel Sanchez led the Astros in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Brett Myers’s 2 hits, and Jeff Keppinger with 2. Lance Berkman had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. Ryan Theriot had the most hits for the Cubs (3), followed by Derrek Lee (2), and Starlin Castro (2).
