The Chicago Cubs squeaked to victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday at Wrigley Field with the Cubs earning the win 3 to 1. It was one heck of a game that devotees with Cubs game tickets will definitely cherish.
Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly (3.12 ERA) got the win, while Jeff Karstens (4.46 ERA) took the loss for the Pirates. Ted Lilly went 7 solid innings for the Cubs, allowed 6 hits, one home run and one earned run with one walk and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cubs was Sean Marshall (2.17). The Pirates’s starter Jeff Karstens went 6 innings, allowed 7 hits, 2 home runs and 2 earned runs with one walk and 2 strikeouts. Javier Lopez (2.79), Brendan Donnelly (5.70), and D.J. Carrasco (4.02) also pitched for the Pirates. With the win, Lilly’s record goes to 3-6, while Karstens is at 2-3. Carlos Marmol earned the save for the Cubs, bringing his saves up to 14.
In addition to the 3 runs, the Cubs scored 8 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Cubs, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Pirates didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Pirates got one run, 7 hits and no errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Dale Scott, Jerry Meals, Mark Wegner and Dan Iassogna. There were 36,914 Cubs ticket holders in attendance at Wrigley Field.
