The Pittsburgh Pirates challenged the the Chicago Cubs yesterday at Wrigley Field with the Pirates earning the win 8 to 2. It was one heck of a game that devotees with Pirates tickets will definitely cherish. Baseball isn’t the only game in town. See what other cheap sports tickets are out there.
Pirates pitcher Jeff Karstens (5.37 ERA) got the win, while Carlos Zambrano (3.77 ERA) took the loss for the Cubs. Jeff Karstens went 5 innings for the Pirates, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with no walks and one strikeout. Also pitching for the Pirates was Donnie Veal (5.28), Steven Jackson (3.27), Jesse Chavez (4.05), and Virgil Vasquez (5.98). The Cubs’s starter Carlos Zambrano went 6 innings, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and 4 earned runs with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. Justin Berg (1.00), John Grabow (3.41), Esmailin Caridad (1.56), and Carlos Marmol (3.45) also pitched for the Cubs. With the win, Karstens’s record goes to 4-5, while Zambrano is at 9-7.
Ryan Doumit provided much of the offense for the Pirates with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 8 runs, the Pirates scored 12 hits and committed no errors. Ryan Doumit led the Pirates in hitting with 4 hits, followed by Lastings Milledge’s 2 hits, and Andrew McCutchen with 2. Brandon Moss had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Cubs didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Cubs got 2 runs, 7 hits and no errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Dan Bellino, Jim Wolf, Bill Welke and Tim Welke. There were 33,299 Cubs ticket holders in attendance at Wrigley Field.
The win puts the Pirates at a record of 61-97, (29 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Cubs to 82-76, (8 games behind the division leader). The Cubs get a chance for revenge tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
