The Chicago Cubs took on the the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday at Wrigley Field with the Cubs coming out on top 6 to 0. It was a solid match that aficionados with Cubs tickets won’t soon forget.
Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster (3.51 ERA) got the win, while Kevin Hart (5.44 ERA) took the loss for the Pirates. Ryan Dempster went 9 solid innings for the Cubs, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. The Pirates’s starter Kevin Hart went 4 innings, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Phil Dumatrait (7.50), Chris Bootcheck (10.54), and Eric Hacker (9.00) also pitched for the Pirates. With the win, Dempster’s record goes to 11-8, while Hart is at 4-9.
In addition to the 6 runs, the Cubs scored 8 hits and committed no errors. Sam Fuld led the Cubs in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Jeff Baker’s one hit. The Pirates didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Pirates scored no runs, 5 hits and 3 errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Bill Welke, James Hoye, Tim Welke and Jim Wolf. There were 35,308 Cubs ticket holders in attendance at Wrigley Field.
The win puts the Cubs at a record of 82-74, (7.5 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Pirates to 59-97, (30.5 games behind first place in the division). The Pirates and Cubs go again tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
