Cubs lose to Brewers 9-5

The Milwaukee Brewers did battle with the the Chicago Cubs yesterday at Wrigley Field with the Brewers victorious 9 to 5. It was a huge win that rooters with Brewers tickets aren’t likely to forget.

Brewers pitcher Braden Looper (4.89 ERA) got the win, while Rich Harden (4.09 ERA) took the loss for the Cubs. Braden Looper went 5 innings for the Brewers, allowed 9 hits, one home run and 5 earned runs with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Brewers was David Weathers (3.51), Mitch Stetter (3.86), Claudio Vargas (2.12), and Todd Coffey (3.11). The Cubs’s starter Rich Harden went 3 innings, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. David Patton (6.41), Justin Berg (0.00), Tom Gorzelanny (4.86), and Sean Marshall (4.52) also pitched for the Cubs. With the win, Looper’s record goes to 13-6, while Harden drops to 9-9.

In addition to the 9 runs, the Brewers put up 13 hits and committed no errors. Alcides Escobar led the Brewers in hitting with 4 hits, followed by Ryan Braun’s 2 hits, and Corey Hart with 2. Jason Kendall had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. Ryan Theriot had the most hits for the Cubs (3), followed by Bobby Scales (2), and Geovany Soto (2). Kosuke Fukudome could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Cubs mustered 5 runs, 13 hits and 2 errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Doug Eddings, Brian Knight, Hunter Wendelstedt and Dana DeMuth. There were 38,084 Cubs ticket holders in attendance at Wrigley Field.

The win puts the Brewers at a record of 70-75, (14 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Cubs to 75-69, (8.5 games behind the division leader). The Cubs will try to get a game back from the Brewers tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
