Cubs defeat Brewers at Miller Park

The Chicago Cubs faced off against the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday at Miller Park with the Cubs securing the victory 7 to 2. It was a great baseball game that fans with Cubs tickets will remember for quite some time.

Cubs pitcher Randy Wells (3.00 ERA) got the win, while Dave Bush (6.22 ERA) took the loss for the Brewers. Randy Wells went 6 innings for the Cubs, allowed 7 hits, one home run and one earned run with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cubs was Sean Marshall (4.41), Esmailin Caridad (1.88), and John Grabow (3.15). The Brewers’s starter Dave Bush went 1.1 innings, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and 5 earned runs with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Chris Smith (3.24), Mike Burns (5.75), Todd Coffey (3.01), Claudio Vargas (1.98), and John Axford (3.38) also pitched for the Brewers. With the win, Wells’s record goes to 11-9, while Bush drops to 5-8.

In addition to the 7 runs, the Cubs put up 8 hits and committed no errors. Derrek Lee led the Cubs in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Kosuke Fukudome’s 2 hits. Jake Fox had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Brewers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Prince Fielder could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Brewers got 2 runs, 10 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Jerry Layne, Tony Randazzo, Chris Guccione and Brian Runge. There were 34,316 Brewers ticket holders in attendance at Miller Park.

The win puts the Cubs at a record of 78-72, (10 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Brewers to 74-77, (14.5 games behind the division leader). The Brewers will try to return the favor tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
