Cubs 4 – Astros 1

The Chicago Cubs took on the the Houston Astros yesterday at Wrigley Field with the Cubs coming out on top 4 to 1. It was a solid match that aficionados with Cubs game tickets won’t soon forget. Not much compares to America’s Pastime so stock up on cheap baseball tickets and see all the fun live.

Cubs pitcher Randy Wells (2.90 ERA) got the win, while Brian Moehler (5.11 ERA) took the loss for the Astros. Randy Wells went 6.2 solid innings for the Cubs, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cubs was John Grabow (2.69), and Kevin Gregg (4.04). The Astros’s starter Brian Moehler went 5.1 innings, allowed 6 hits, one home run and one earned run with no walks and 2 strikeouts. Sammy Gervacio (1.00), and Jeff Fulchino (3.55) also pitched for the Astros. With the win, Wells’s record goes to 10-7, while Moehler is at 8-10. Carlos Marmol earned the save for the Cubs, bringing his saves up to 7.

In addition to the 4 runs, the Cubs scored 8 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Cubs, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Jeff Baker had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. Michael Bourn had the most hits for the Astros (3), followed by Geoff Blum (2). Miguel Tejada could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Astros scored one run, 8 hits and 2 errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Chuck Meriwether, Laz Diaz, Eric Cooper and Mike Reilly. There were 36,332 Cubs ticket holders in attendance at Wrigley Field.

The win puts the Cubs at a record of 66-64, (10.5 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Astros to 63-69, (14.5 games behind first place in the division). The Astros and Cubs go again tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
