Brewers fall to Cubs 13-7

The Chicago Cubs faced the the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday at Wrigley Field with the Cubs winning 13 to 7. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Cubs tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 20 runs! Talk about excitement!

Cubs pitcher Aaron Heilman (4.15 ERA) got the win, while Yovani Gallardo (3.84 ERA) took the loss for the Brewers. Carlos Zambrano went 5 innings for the Cubs, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and 5 earned runs with 4 walks and 9 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cubs was Kevin Gregg (4.70), Esmailin Caridad (2.38), and Jeff Samardzija (7.89). The Brewers’s starter Yovani Gallardo went 5.1 innings, allowed 7 hits, one home run and 7 earned runs with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts. Todd Coffey (3.15), Carlos Villanueva (5.53), Chris Smith (3.50), and John Axford (9.00) also pitched for the Brewers. With the win, Heilman’s record goes to 3-3, while Gallardo falls to 12-12.

In addition to the 13 runs, the Cubs managed 11 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Cubs, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Geovany Soto had a tough day at the plate, leaving 7 runners on base. The Brewers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Brewers managed 7 runs, 8 hits and 2 errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Dana DeMuth, Doug Eddings, Brian Knight and Hunter Wendelstedt. There were 38,986 Cubs ticket holders in attendance at Wrigley Field.

The win puts the Cubs at a record of 75-68, (8.5 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Brewers to 69-75, (15 games behind first place in the division). The Brewers again take on the Cubs tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
