Brewers edge Cubs by 1

The Milwaukee Brewers got a tough win over the Chicago Cubs yesterday at Miller Park with the Brewers picking up the W 3 to 2. It was one heck of a game that folks with Brewers tickets aren’t likely to forget.

Brewers pitcher Chris Narveson (3.82 ERA) got the win, while Jeff Samardzija (7.53 ERA) took the loss for the Cubs. Chris Narveson went 5.2 innings for the Brewers, allowed 4 hits, one home run and one earned run with no walks and 10 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Brewers was Todd Coffey (3.00), David Weathers (3.49), and Claudio Vargas (1.93). The Cubs’s starter Jeff Samardzija went 5 innings, allowed 5 hits, 2 home runs and 3 earned runs with one walk and 3 strikeouts. Sean Marshall (4.39), Justin Berg (0.00), Jeff Stevens (8.68), and John Grabow (3.10) also pitched for the Cubs. With the win, Narveson’s record goes to 2-0, while Samardzija is at 1-3. Trevor Hoffman earned the save for the Brewers, bringing his saves up to 35.

In addition to the 3 runs, the Brewers scored 5 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Brewers, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Cubs didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Cubs managed 2 runs, 7 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Tony Randazzo, Chris Guccione, Brian Runge and Jerry Layne. There were 32,340 Brewers ticket holders in attendance at Miller Park.

The win puts the Brewers at a record of 75-77, (13.5 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Cubs to 78-73, (10 games behind first place in the division).
